I have traveled to more than 23 countries on 7 different continents around the world (and counting!).

Long haul flights (14 hours +) and short flights (20 minutes) and everything in between.

On these adventures, I have learned a few helpful tips to make your travels that much more easier and enjoyable.

Here are my Top Ten Tips for Healthy and Happy Flights.

  • Pack lots of healthy snacks – this will make it easier to stay on track with your healthy diet.
  • Long haul flights – you can ask the airline for healthy meal options (do this in advance – when you book your flight)
  • Flights can be cold and then hot. And then cold again. Bring a sweater you can easily put on. And then take off again.
  • Water is your friend. Hydration can help with jet lag and keep you feeling your best.
  • Before my flights, I save lots of new meditation tracks on my phone. I can listen to the meditations for hours on end and use this time to relax.
  • Journal out ideas. Bring a new journal and pen. I have my greatest sources of inspiration on flights. Uninterrupted time to day dream.
  • Set goals. You have a few hours (or more) to write out your biggest goals and how you want to achieve them. Create a plan.
  • Noise canceling headphones. My favourite thing for traveling. I can go into my own world and regroup.
  • Gratitude and kindness. If you are getting overwhelmed in an airport or on the plane, think of 5 things you are grateful for in that moment.
  • Look out the window and enjoy! Life is so precious, enjoy these moments and the spectacular world we live in!

Healthy Snack Ideas:

  • Vitamin C powder packets – simply add to some water for a healthy beverage
  • Almonds (plain no sugar coating added)
  • Fresh fruit
  • Protein bars
  • Kale chips (although these can be messy)
  • Protein powder (add to water – post security – for an instant smoothie)
  • Green bottle smoothie (bought or sealed bottle – post security)

There are more options for healthy eating in airports now more than ever before. Seek out healthy meals when you have stopovers. Your body (and mind) will thank you.

If you have a longer stop over and need to regroup – airports usually have a meditation or quiet room (open to the general public) that you can use for a bit of time to yourself.

Some airports are even equipped with gyms, you can get your workout in or walk up and down a flight of steps to get the circulation going.

Airport lounges are a great way to get away from it all and gain a bit of freedom from the fast pace of airports. Most lounges have the option to pay an hourly rate for a drop in. You can eat, relax and take a time out.
